Real Life Haunt: Mariah

Madeleine Green, Kaitlin Stansell

Real Life Haunt: Mariah

Mariah describes an experience she had late one night where she thought she saw an image of her father...she knew it meant something but was not sure because her father was still alive. Turns out her father was in the hospital, and she feels like this experience was him visiting to let her know something was not right.

Because of her experience she now is the co-founder of a paranormal group called North Carolina State Paranormal...where she goes to local places to learn more about the paranormal and answer the many questions she still has about the unknown.

Endeavors here at the Unrest podcast.

00:00:44 Speaker 2

Yes, please give us all your money we.

00:00:48 Speaker 2

Need to buy eggs?

00:00:51 Speaker 3

If I see one more egg meme, I don't know what I'm.

00:00:54 Speaker 3

Gonna do right?

00:00:55 Speaker 3

Before we get into our real life haunt.

00:00:57 Speaker 3

Today I've a.

00:00:58 Speaker 3

Sort of funny story to tell about one of our previous episodes.

00:01:02 Speaker 3

So if you haven't listened to it yet, go back.

00:01:04 Speaker 3

And listen to Rachel.

00:01:06 Speaker 3

's story from a couple weeks ago.

00:01:09 Speaker 3

If you haven't been on the show, the way that Madeline and I do the interviews, we do them separately.

00:01:16 Speaker 3

And then we come together like one night a week or every so often to record together and sort of listen to the stories and then react to them.

00:01:26 Speaker 3

Just because that's how it works best with our work schedules.

00:01:28 Speaker 3

But the other day I was out at a work dinner and part of that dinner was.

00:01:36 Speaker 3

An escape room.

00:01:39 Speaker 3

And these people I was having dinner with like I don't get to see them every day and I don't have like super close relationships with.

00:01:45 Speaker 3

Them, it was just really good opportunity to meet some new people, get to know them and they wanted to do this team building thing.

00:01:53 Speaker 3

So we're broken into three or four groups to do the escape room.

00:01:57 Speaker 3

And in my group we're going into the ransom room.

00:02:01 Speaker 3

Which is like probably their spookiest room.

00:02:04 Speaker 3

First of all, like they just turn off all the lights, you have two flashlights and you have to solve the mystery that way, but there's a girl in my group and I never really like.

00:02:17 Speaker 3

Had a lot of conversations with her.

00:02:19 Speaker 3

I just met her a couple weeks prior to that, but anyways we do the escape room.

00:02:24 Speaker 3

It's really fun.

00:02:25 Speaker 3

We come out and we're just talking about, you know, like, oh, like this was a great idea to do the escape room, but like next time maybe we should do like a ghost tour because we're in downtown Charleston and me and this girl are like, yeah, like the Ghost Tours.

00:02:39 Speaker 3

They're so good and she's like been on the.

00:02:41 Speaker 3

Jail tour several.

00:02:42 Speaker 3

Times like during a full moon and she's like you have to do it.

00:02:46 Speaker 3

It's like the best experience, and that's like one of my favorite goes towards in downtown Charleston is the jail.

00:02:52 Speaker 3

And then I was like, hey, like me and my friend.

00:02:55 Speaker 3

Actually we do this ghost podcast.

00:02:57 Speaker 3

If you're like into that sort of thing and she was like I was.

00:02:59 Speaker 3

Just on a ghost podcast.

00:03:02 Speaker 3

I was like what and she was.

00:03:05 Speaker 3

Like let me see if I can find the name of it and I'm.

00:03:08 Speaker 3

Like hold on Rachel.

00:03:10 Speaker 3

I was like we.

00:03:11 Speaker 3

Just interviewed her Rachel.

00:03:13 Speaker 3

And I'm like going back to look and like we're both like trying to.

00:03:16 Speaker 3

See who can find it the.

00:03:17 Speaker 2

Fastest, it was her no way.

00:03:22 Speaker 3

We had interviewed Rachel that I met her in person and like all of the connections started making sense like cause her story was about Washington state and her apartment that she lived in there.

00:03:34 Speaker 3

And I was like you have.

00:03:35 Speaker 3

To be kidding me.

00:03:37 Speaker 2

Holy cow, what a small world.

00:03:39 Speaker 3

And why did I even find her?

00:03:42 Speaker 3

I think she had posted in a group about her story, and so Madeline had done the interview that week.

00:03:48 Speaker 3

Or Rachel I think had actually recorded her story herself, and that's sort of how we worked it into our recordings.

00:03:56 Speaker 3

So I never like talk to her.

00:03:58 Speaker 3

When we did the actual episode and I just never made that connection until.

00:04:05 Speaker 3

This like weird meeting and we were like dying laughing after that once we sort of realized that she was on our podcast.

00:04:14 Speaker 2

And ohh my gosh the other yeah, no blown away so Caitlin wouldn't tell me this story until we were on here so she could get my live.

00:04:16 Speaker 3

We working him.

00:04:27 Speaker 3

Isn't that isn't that wild like what a small world.

00:04:31 Speaker 2

Gosh, that's funny and I was like Dang I.

00:04:33 Speaker 3

Hope when she was first.

00:04:35 Speaker 3

Tell me I was like did I interview her?

00:04:37 Speaker 3

And just like not realize this.

00:04:38 Speaker 3

Was her.

00:04:39 Speaker 3

And then when I.

00:04:39 Speaker 2

No, yeah.

00:04:40 Speaker 3

Looked back I was like ohh that was one that Madeline.

00:04:42 Speaker 3

Had gotten.

00:04:43 Speaker 2

Yeah, she sent the recording.

00:04:43 Speaker 3

He was like no, actually I did it.

00:04:46 Speaker 2

Yeah wow.

00:04:48 Speaker 3

You're like crazy and I.

00:04:49 Speaker 2

That's absolutely not.

00:04:51 Speaker 3

I was just like shocked.

00:04:52 Speaker 3

The whole rest of the night I.

00:04:53 Speaker 3

Was like I cannot believe that.

00:04:55 Speaker 2

Yeah no.

00:04:56 Speaker 2

I mean, we're going places.

00:04:58 Speaker 3

Yeah, and apparently she told me that.

00:05:01 Speaker 3

She was like we have to go in the jail tour.

00:05:03 Speaker 3

Together she said she's like, had experiences on it where she's like, felt someone like, touch her.

00:05:10 Speaker 3

But she was like you have to go on a full moon like that's the only time that you would.

00:05:13 Speaker 3

Have an experience.

00:05:15 Speaker 3

So yeah, like I don't know just like so.

00:05:18 Speaker 3

Weird how the world works.

00:05:19 Speaker 3

Right, and like the connections you make.

00:05:22 Speaker 2

So yeah, a little off topic though, we're gonna do another giveaway.

00:06:02 Speaker 3

And they're on the podcast.

00:06:04 Speaker 2

So for this week's real life hunt, I talked to Mariah and she shares with us.

00:06:12 Speaker 2

A sad story of the passing of her father, but she was blessed with a little goodbye from him before he passed so.

00:06:21 Speaker 2

Check it out.

00:06:25 Speaker 4

January 28th of 2020.

00:06:29 Speaker 4

I was it was about 11:00 o'clock at night.

00:06:33 Speaker 4

And I was giving my dog a bath.

00:06:36 Speaker 4

And the way that our bathroom is, whenever I'm bent over washing her, I can lean back and I can see into my dining room.

00:06:46 Speaker 4

So it was kind of a small bathroom to where I could lean back and see you throughout the whole house.

00:06:52 Speaker 4

So I was giving her a bath and my boyfriend was already asleep.

00:06:56 Speaker 4

He works for shifts, so I didn't really think that he would be up for anything, but I felt somebody behind me.

00:07:05 Speaker 4

So I turned around thinking, OK, it must be him trying to see what I'm doing.

00:07:10 Speaker 4

Well, when I looked it was only about maybe a split second.

00:07:15 Speaker 4

I see this white mist and it looked like and it was so weird it looked like my dad but he was younger.

00:07:26 Speaker 4

In jeans and a white shirt, and it was only.

00:07:29 Speaker 4

For a split second.

00:07:30 Speaker 4

And then it went.

00:07:31 Speaker 4

Away and I was so freaked out because my dad was alive.

00:07:36 Speaker 4

As far as I knew, so I freaked out and I called my boyfriend like I hollered for him and.

00:07:42 Speaker 4

He got up.

00:07:43 Speaker 4

And I was telling him what happened and he was like, well, you know, maybe you're just bent over and you're all the blood rushed to your head like you don't know what's going on.

00:07:53 Speaker 4

Like come on let's go to bed at about 2:00 AM I get.

00:07:56 Speaker 4

A phone call.

00:07:58 Speaker 4

And it's for my sister and she's like, hey, I need you to get up to the hospital.

00:08:04 Speaker 4

Dad, something's wrong with him like he's not responding. We don't know what's going on with him and I was like, Oh my gosh, you know.

00:08:11 Speaker 4

So I jump up and I get my clothes on and I, you know, I left everything.

00:08:17 Speaker 4

I just had pajamas on and I got up there as fast as I could.

00:08:21 Speaker 4

Well he went in the day before.

00:08:24 Speaker 4

Because he had really bad kidney stones.

00:08:27 Speaker 4

So he went in for a simple procedure and.

00:08:31 Speaker 4

It didn't go.

00:08:31 Speaker 4

Right, he only has one kidney, so whenever he was on the table and they opened him.

00:08:37 Speaker 4

Up for some reason I'm I don't know exactly what happened, but all of his organs started to shut down.

00:08:45 Speaker 4

He basically flatline and he died on the table.

00:08:49 Speaker 4

But they brought him back.

00:08:52 Speaker 4

But he was on machines, so by the time I got there he was just on life support and when I got there I told my mom I thought he was already gone.

00:09:05 Speaker 4

He was just on, you know he the the machines were just keeping him alive and on January 30th of 2020 at 1:28 AM.

00:09:14 Speaker 4

He died and we had to watch him come off of life support.

00:09:19 Speaker 4

It's not like in the movies when they say they just close their eyes and go to sleep, it's.

00:09:24 Speaker 4

Not like that at all.

00:09:25 Speaker 4

It was pretty traumatic and I wish me and my sister wouldn't have seen that because it scarred us for the rest of our life.

00:09:31 Speaker 4

We sorry, so it's a bad story.

00:09:35 Speaker 4

Yeah, I still get choked up about it talking about it, but after that a couple days go by and then I go to sleep and I have a dream that I'm standing in a long line.

00:09:49 Speaker 4

And everybody in line in front of me and behind me, or sobbing and crying and just in my head I knew, oh, OK, we're standing in line, waiting to hear about our loved ones that have passed on like I just knew that in my head.

00:10:06 Speaker 4

It was so weird.

00:10:09 Speaker 4

And it was finally my turn and it was there was this being there standing there and.

00:10:17 Speaker 4

I told my mom it was so weird because this being didn't have, I couldn't tell if it was a female or a male like it didn't have a gender, it was just.

00:10:27 Speaker 4

It was just a being.

00:10:29 Speaker 4

And they were like you can ask three questions about your loved one and then after that you need to go on with your life and make peace with this.

00:10:40 Speaker 4

And I was like OK and so my first question was well, is he OK?

00:10:45 Speaker 4

Like is he at peace like you know what's going on?

00:10:48 Speaker 4

They were like.

00:10:49 Speaker 4

Well, yeah, he's at peace, he's fine.

00:10:52 Speaker 4

He's with his family and he's happy because he, his mom, died and.

00:10:57 Speaker 4

His dad died.

00:10:58 Speaker 4

So both my grandparents were passed on so they were like yeah, he's fine.

00:11:04 Speaker 4

He's at peace.

00:11:05 Speaker 4

He's actually hunting and fishing, which sounds like him.

00:11:09 Speaker 4

So I was like OK and I was like well.

00:11:15 Speaker 4

Sorry, it's still really hard to.

00:11:17 Speaker 4

Talk about and.

00:11:20 Speaker 4

I was like so he's OK.

00:11:21 Speaker 4

He's with his mom and this being was like, yeah, they're nothing but energy.

00:11:27 Speaker 4

They can come and go whenever they want.

00:11:30 Speaker 4

He comes down to you and talks to you and he sees you and I don't remember the third question that I asked, but I do remember this being.

00:11:39 Speaker 4

Telling me that hey, you know.

00:11:43 Speaker 4

They can come and go whenever they want to.

00:11:45 Speaker 4

He says that he's sorry for everything that happened.

00:11:49 Speaker 4

He's sorry that you and your sister had to witness him passing.

00:11:54 Speaker 4

You know he didn't want y'all to see him like that, and after that I woke up and as soon as I woke up it looked like someone lit.

00:12:03 Speaker 4

A sparkler firework.

00:12:06 Speaker 4

Up above my.

00:12:06 Speaker 4

Head and it flew up in the.

00:12:09 Speaker 4

Air and just.

00:12:10 Speaker 4

Disappeared, it was so weird.

00:12:13 Speaker 4

I called my mom.

00:12:14 Speaker 4

It was like 3:00 o'clock in the morning and I called her and I didn't wanna forget my dream.

00:12:20 Speaker 4

So I wrote it down real quick and I was talking to her about it.

00:12:23 Speaker 4

I needed to find more.

00:12:25 Speaker 4

I wanted to find out more about where we go and what happens after this.

00:12:30 Speaker 4

Life and I wanted to get proof just for my assurance and I wanted to help others as well with their loved.

00:12:38 Speaker 4

Passing so I made my own paranormal group. After that when I seen the mist, it was a younger version of him and it was just a split second and it was jeans and a white T-shirt and he was smiling so I knew he was happy. You know and I think.

00:12:57 Speaker 4

What it was.

00:12:59 Speaker 4

Is see he was in the hospital a day before that I knew about getting the procedure done and then then it happened.

00:13:08 Speaker 4

That night, so I think when he came, that was when he was already gone and he was coming to tell me, hey, you know I love you, I'm here.

00:13:18 Speaker 4

That's just my best.

00:13:20 Speaker 4

Take on it like hey, I'm OK like I'm gone and I just wanted to see you one more time before because everybody else.

00:13:28 Speaker 4

Like my siblings and stuff were.

00:13:29 Speaker 4

Young enough to where they were there already.

00:13:32 Speaker 4

They got to see him and talked to him before he passed, but I didn't.

00:13:37 Speaker 4

I was the only one that wasn't able to tell him by.

00:13:40 Speaker 4

I wasn't able to give him any last words or anything like that, so that's my take on that and see I've always been obsessed with.

00:13:50 Speaker 4

The paranormal ever since I was ten years old and ghost hunters came out and then ghost adventures came out like I've always watched it like that, but I've never been.

00:13:59 Speaker 4

I've never had.

00:13:59 Speaker 4

An experience like that until then, when he you know he was so close to me when he died.

00:14:05 Speaker 4

So it was just it.

00:14:07 Speaker 4

It all made sense, but then I had more questions than answers to my questions.

00:14:13 Speaker 4

I was like, well, why did?

00:14:15 Speaker 4

Why did he just pop up like that like?

00:14:18 Speaker 4

It just didn't make any sense.

00:14:20 Speaker 4

So I am the co-founder of North Carolina State Paranormal.

00:14:25 Speaker 4

We are out of Rowan County but we go anywhere.

00:14:29 Speaker 4

We actually went to the mount.

00:14:32 Speaker 4

About couple of months ago in October, so we go anywhere, but we mostly stay around North Carolina and we do a lot of things with Gold Hill, Gold, Hill Village, so and actually in October we are starting back the Ghost Walk after COVID so we are.

00:14:52 Speaker 4

The paranormal team for Gold Hill Village.

00:14:55 Speaker 4

We have a lot of fun doing that and we've caught some really good evidence for people.

00:15:00 Speaker 4

We've called past loved ones.

00:15:02 Speaker 4

We just did investigation where this man's mother passed away and he had her ashes and her chair that she used to always sit on and we got some really good evidence of her talking to us, and we've been to churches.

00:15:17 Speaker 4

We've been to schools so.

00:15:20 Speaker 4

We've had a lot of really good evidence we have actually had a thing where we went to Gold Hill and came home, and a lot of people call it an attachment.

00:15:32 Speaker 4

Which is like if you are dealing with the paranormal and you come home.

00:15:38 Speaker 4

Sometimes they can follow you if the entity or the spirit is strong enough.

00:15:44 Speaker 4

So after we did our.

00:15:45 Speaker 4

Investigation I came home one time and.

00:15:49 Speaker 4

For about a week I was so paranoid.

00:15:51 Speaker 4

I'm usually a good sleeper.

00:15:53 Speaker 4

But I was so paranoid that I was being watched and I could not sleep.

00:15:57 Speaker 4

I had to wait till the day to go back to sleep and it it only lasted for about a week and then it would go away and.

00:16:04 Speaker 4

So we've had that happen a few times, so it getting into the paranormal world and investigating and stuff.

00:16:11 Speaker 4

We've had a lot of new experiences and more questions than answers.

00:16:17 Speaker 4

The paranormal for sure.

00:16:19 Speaker 4

Gold Hill Village is in Rowan County, North Carolina and it is a old mining.

00:16:25 Speaker 4

Town where they hunted for gold.

00:16:29 Speaker 4

And the gold and stuff like that.

00:16:31 Speaker 4

So they have still over there.

00:16:34 Speaker 4

They've preserved a village where they've taken houses from that time and buildings from that time and kind of put them in like a little St.

00:16:44 Speaker 4

in the middle of nowhere.

00:16:46 Speaker 4

And you can go there and visit.

00:16:49 Speaker 4

And it's said to be haunted and we've went over there and checked it out.

00:16:54 Speaker 4

We did all the buildings.

00:16:55 Speaker 4

We did the restaurant we did outside and supposedly there's a woman that everybody in that community sees all the time.

00:17:05 Speaker 4

And they think that it's somebody's wife. One of the miners wifes.

00:17:09 Speaker 4

Trying to find her husband that was killed down there in the mines and we've called voices of a female talking.

00:17:17 Speaker 4

We've called a man sounding like he's working in the mines.

00:17:22 Speaker 4

We've called a bell noise and it was so weird because I was like that doesn't sound.

00:17:28 Speaker 4

Like a church bell.

00:17:29 Speaker 4

You showed one of the community people that helped run that place.

00:17:34 Speaker 4

She was.

00:17:35 Speaker 4

No, that sounds like the old mining.

00:17:38 Speaker 4

They'll that they used to play whenever it was time to for like dinner or time for their shift to end.

00:17:46 Speaker 4

So that was really cool that we caught that.

00:17:49 Speaker 4

My advice would probably be to stay calm.

00:17:54 Speaker 4

It's a loved one so.

00:17:57 Speaker 4

There's really nothing to be afraid of.

00:18:00 Speaker 4

I think that my loved one and my experience.

00:18:02 Speaker 4

He came to show me that he was OK and that he was at peace and moving on and if anything like that hell happens to anyone.

00:18:11 Speaker 4

And you know, that's probably what they're thinking as well, like it's not really a scary experience.

00:18:16 Speaker 4

I wasn't scared.

00:18:17 Speaker 4

It wasn't terrorized, it was more of a shock.

00:18:21 Speaker 4

And then whenever I found out what happened, all the pieces started slowly coming together and made sense about what happened.

00:18:28 Speaker 4

You know, OK, he.

00:18:30 Speaker 4

Must have passed that.

00:18:31 Speaker 4

Time and came to me to let me know.

00:18:35 Speaker 4

So anybody that's going through that if you are scared you don't need to be scared in your own home.

00:18:42 Speaker 4

That's what our group likes to tell people and share with people.

00:18:48 Speaker 4

There's no reason for you to be scared in.

00:18:50 Speaker 4

Your own home.

00:18:51 Speaker 4

Call a professional to come out and help you if you need to, or if you are religious in any way.

00:19:00 Speaker 4

Go seek help in that direction.

00:19:02 Speaker 4

Don't ever be afraid of the paranormal, they we can always figure out a way for you to live with it or we can find out a way for you to get rid of it and let them go in peace.

00:19:18 Speaker 3

You know, I think when loved ones pass, we always hope we have sort of an opportunity like what Mariah had to.

00:19:26 Speaker 3

You know, find some peace and feel like you had some closure with that loved one before they die.

00:19:33 Speaker 2

You know when you hear about the passing of loved ones, or like them being taken off life support and that kind of thing.

00:19:39 Speaker 2

You always think it's like a a peaceful type of thing and she kind of shares that it.

00:19:44 Speaker 2

It was the opposite for them.

00:19:45 Speaker 2

It was very traumatic and she almost wishes.

00:19:48 Speaker 2

But her and her sister did not participate in that part of his passing on.

00:19:53 Speaker 2

But the fact that he does, still, you know, come to her in dreams, and in that kind of thing, I think, is his way.

00:20:00 Speaker 2

She said something about him, almost like apologizing for what they had to go through with his passing so.

00:20:07 Speaker 2

I feel like she's lucky that he did come to her and help smooth things over a little bit because it seems like she was pretty devastated and and felt the effects of his passing very strongly as opposed to some people we have on here who it was more of like a peaceful type.

00:20:26 Speaker 3

Thing yeah, I mean I could see how that would be traumatic.

00:20:29 Speaker 3

You know, knowing that you're the one that has to make that decision.

00:20:33 Speaker 3

I'm sure she felt very blessed to have.

00:20:36 Speaker 2

Some little piece of reassurance that it was the right choice.

00:20:39 Speaker 2

Also, she didn't say this in our interview, but I when we were done she did say that we could go on one of their ghost tours that she does around Halloween, so that should be fun.

00:20:50 Speaker 2

So make sure you stay tuned around October.

00:20:53 Speaker 2
